Local Love – Sarah & Chris at Galleria Marchetti
Sarah and Chris met as college students at Indiana University, but didn’t begin their official relationship until Chris moved back to Chicago several years after graduating. Once they reunited, they realized they were perfect for each other thanks to their shared interests and values. Their families and friends were able to see that they brought out the best in each other, and it felt meant to be from the early stages of their relationship.
The couple were both raised Catholic and were happy to continue family traditions by getting married in the same church as Sarah’s parents and grandparents. Though her grandparents are no longer here, Sarah was able to pay tribute to them by including miniature portraits of them on her bouquet of red roses and including special music selections that were connected to them throughout the ceremony.
Sarah and Chris kept things classic with a white and black color palette accented with pops of silver, white birch branches and winter berries for a perfect wintery feel. The couple wanted their guests to enjoy the reception, which meant encouraging lots of dancing! They danced among their guests, distributing glow sticks which were used as everything from pretend microphones to swords. The crowning moment of the fun featured Sarah and Chris’s dads jumping on stage to perform “Jumping Jack Flash” with the band. Everyone was speechless at their moves!
When the couple looks back on their Big Day, two moments stand out in particular. For Chris, their first look was his favorite memory. “I was so happy, yet surprisingly calm,” he shared. He really loved having a few minutes to share privately with Sarah before the excitement and craziness of the day began. Sarah especially treasured the welcome speech that she and Chris gave at the beginning of their reception. “We were surrounded by loving friends and family, and when you look out across the room and see all of their faces and feel the energy of the room– it was so overwhelmingly wonderful and truly a special moment,” she said.
