Local Love – Lindsay & Phillip Aboard Odyssey Cruises
Phillip was a regular customer at the restaurant Lindsay managed in Layton, Utah. After months of flirting, he realized he was missing an item from his usual order and used the opportunity to ask Lindsay for a date instead of the free meal she offered him. This spark turned into real love and Lindsay said she knew Phillip was the one for her because every time life got hard, “Phil was right there. With his calm nature and sense of humor he always found a way to make me feel better.” Phil knew Lindsay was the one for him because their passion was unlike anything he had ever felt. Their shared love of travel was a cherry on top of their compatibility.
The couple decided to get married in Chicago because Lindsay had always loved the skyline when visiting from her hometown in Michigan and Phillip had a nostalgic love for Navy Pier having grown up on the South Side. When deciding when to host their Big Day, Lindsay said, “Phil being a veteran and my love for the 4th of July made having our wedding right before Independence Day Celebration a ‘no-brainer’.” It was important to Lindsay to show off the city they both love, especially for her family members who traveled long distances to celebrate with the couple.
Lindsay savored the chance to reconnect with some of her best friends amid wedding day preparations. Each of her bridesmaids wrote a letter about their favorite shared memories for Lindsay to read before they started getting ready. The wedding party met at Jane Addams Park for photos and Lindsay and Phillip’s “first look” before boarding ship for the main event.
They held their ceremony on the top deck of Odyssey Cruises with impressive views of the Chicago skyline framed in the background. After the picture-perfect ceremony, everyone descended to the reception hosted onboard while cruising Lake Michigan. Lindsay and Phillip surprised their guests with a choreographed dance mash-up featuring a waltz, a Bollywood number, and some hip-hop, an especially impressive feat given Lindsay’s self-proclaimed “struggle with rhythm.” All of the practice paid off in a show-stopping performance. “One of our favorite memories was the look on each other’s face as we tried to contain our anticipation of the secret wedding dance we planned,” Phillip shared.
