Local Love – Halisa & Sead at Drury Lane Theatre & Events
Halisa and Sead were both born in Chicago to families with Montenegrin roots. They grew up attending Saturday school together where they learned about their religion and culture, but never really got to know each other. They eventually ended up meeting for a coffee date and had so much fun talking that they closed down the café. They knew they were a perfect fit because they shared a religion, culture and educational backgrounds. They even enjoy a friendly rivalry as Sead attended Depaul and Halisa attended Loyola! “What we love the most about each other is that we never have to explain anything because we fully understand each other. And that’s a great feeling,” Halisa shared.
On their wedding day, Sead celebrated with his family in the morning. As per their cultural tradition, his family (except for Sead and his mom) headed over to pick up Halisa from her family’s home. She followed tradition and held her nephew on her lap as a blessing for her own future children, washed her hands to symbolize a clean start, drank sugar water to give her energy for the day and was showered with jewelry and gifts from Sead’s family.
After they fulfilled their traditions, Halisa and Sead headed to Dominican University to take photos before arriving at Drury Lane Theatre & Events to celebrate with all of their friends and family. The reception was decorated in a palette of gold with pink and red accents and as many flowers as possible. The dance floor was surrounded by hydrangeas and roses so guests would feel like they were dancing in a garden. Everyone was in awe of the couple’s stunning seven-foot-tall wedding cake! “My favorite memory was standing at the main table and realizing how packed the dance floor was. It made us happy to see everything come together so well,” Halisa said.
It was truly a family affair, with Halisa and Sead’s families sharing the cost of the wedding and family and friends flying in from as far as New York, California, Florida and Montenegro to celebrate with the happy couple.
