Katie and Jon’s Intimate Wedding at the Ambassador Chicago
The pandemic was a difficult time filled with uncertainty and anxiety, admit both Katie and Jon. Yet, through this, they met and fell in love. Leaning on each other for support gave them strength. Their relationship blossomed, and when it was time to say “I do,” the couple was ready to celebrate.
The couple started the day with the first look at the rooftop terrace of the Ambassador Chicago. With its sweeping views of the Chicago skyline, it was the perfect backdrop for stunning portraits. The couple then spent the afternoon exploring the picturesque Gold Coast neighborhood with their photographer for intimate and candid images. By chance, they were even invited to take photos in the historic Astor Club, a hidden underground speakeasy that was undergoing renovation. An afternoon filled with romance and adventure made for memorable images the couple will cherish for years to come.
Standing before an intimate crowd of 100 of their closest friends and family, Katie and Jon exchanged vows at nearby St. Chrysostom’s Episcopal Church. The couple thoughtfully curated the music and delighted their guests when one of the bridesmaids – a trained opera singer – performed an aria by Bach. After the ceremony, they exited to the jubilant ring of the church’s historic carillon.
After the ceremony, it was back to the Ambassador for cocktail hour in The Library, with the reception following in the Ambassador Room. The opulent venue set the stage for a glamorous evening. The couple skipped a traditional wedding cake and opted for a house-made tiramisu, requested by Katie’s mom. They also provided an array of authentic Italian cookies – a wedding tradition from Katie’s hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Jon made sure that the bar had plenty of Malort (unironically), Katie’s favorite Chicago libation.
After enduring the difficulties of the pandemic, the couple choose upbeat classics for first dance songs to foster a sense of celebration and steer clear of sappiness. The DJ kept the party going late into the evening. It was a perfect night filled with dancing, memories, and love.
