Jordan & Michael’s Nautical Chicago Wedding
Jordan & Michael
September 15, 2018
Chicago, IL
Jordan and Michael met on a cruise and have been inseparable ever since, so it only made sense to tie a nautical theme into their wedding! The Columbia Yacht Club seemed to be the perfect location for their intimate celebration, offering picturesque views of Lake Michigan and the city skyline. Guests were greeted with a glass of champagne upon entering the evening ceremony. The couple chose to write their own vows and exchanged them in front their closest friends and family before making a joyful exit.
The ceremony space was transformed into a beautiful reception with white chaivari chairs, striped navy linens, blue uplighting and white and green floral arrangements that sat atop tall clear vases. Guests received bottles of Zinfandel from Peju Winery as favors, along with a meaningful photo of themselves with the newlyweds. After dinner, the couple cut into a city-themed three-tier cake from Alliance Bakery, shared a memorable first dance, then danced the night away to music provided by Gary Hipperson of Sounds Abound Entertainment.

“We both did not want to wear tuxes and went for custom suits instead. The suits were from Surmesur, located in the Chicago Loop. We wanted similar looking, but not perfectly matching suits. Michael opted for a vest and bowtie, while I wanted a full length tie with suspenders. We also went with a fashionable touch and wore no show socks with our Montauk shoes, which Grant McNamara of The Wedding GPS, aided in the choosing of.” -Jordan
“Party favors were from Peju Winery in Napa Valley. We fell in love with this wine and became members of their wine club. We attached meaningful photographs of us with each person to the bottles. The particular Zinfandel wine ages well over 5-7 years and told people to enjoy the wine now or in the future during a special time.” -Jordan
“Our cake was from Alliance Bakery and we went with a city themed three-tiered cake. The bottom base consisted of vanilla cake with white chocolate frosting. The middle section was lemon cake and strawberry frosting filling. The top section was vanilla cake with a pistachio cream frosting. We also had a sweets table provided via Sean & Carrie Hand from Maggiano’s.” -Jordan
The Proposal
“We first got our Domestic Partnership through Cook County before gay marriage was legal. We knew we wanted to make 10 years a special year, so we decided to have our ceremony then. Last year (2017) we went on the trip of a lifetime to Australia and New Zealand. In the most beautiful place on the face of the earth, Milford Sound, New Zealand is where I proposed to Michael. I asked a random stranger to take a picture of us. As they did, I turned to Michael and proposed. It truly was out of this world and perfect!” -Jordan
