Wedding Dress Shopping Tips

Finding “the dress” is on the top to-do list of many nearlyweds. But it can certainly be one of the more daunting (and sometimes stressful) tasks to check off! However, with proper planning, it can be one of the most enjoyable, memory-making moments unto itself. Let’s dive into a few ways to make the most of your dress-shopping day.
MAKE AN APPOINTMENT
Wedding gown shopping is not the occasion for “dropping in.” Most reputable bridal salons require an appointment — and this is for your benefit. By scheduling an appointment and completing a pre-questionnaire, your stylist will have time to get to know your wedding details and pull looks you’re sure to love.
SET YOUR BUDGET
Establish a budget … even if your budget is “no budget!” Remember to account for accessories, alterations and undergarments. Sticking to a budget can help narrow your choices and even which salons you want to make appointments at.
DOCUMENT THE DAY
Take photos and notes during your appointments to keep track of the dresses you try on. This will help you remember what you liked and didn’t like about each dress. Plus, you’d be surprised by how much your facial expressions reveal how you really feel in each dress.
PLAN FOR ALTERATIONS
Most — if not all — wedding dresses require alterations to achieve the perfect fit. Most alterations providers suggest starting the process 3-4 months before your wedding date.
PERMISSION TO SAY “YES”
Go into your appointment with an open mind. Your gown should feel authentically you. A gown can check every box on your must-have list, but if you don’t love it, then it’s not the dress. Another gown could be completely different from anything you thought you wanted, but if it feels right, then you’ve found your “the one.”
INVITE THE RIGHT CREW
While it’s tempting to bring a large group of friends and family, too many opinions can be overwhelming and strong personalities can affect the overall mood of the appointment. Think specifically about the opinions you value most and keep your entourage VIP-only.
RELAX AND ENJOY!
Your gown will be a direct reflection of who you are. When you meet her, you’ll know her. Enjoy the process and happy shopping!
