Hillary and George’s Classic Chicago Wedding with a Southern and Greek Twist
Chicago, with its towering skyscrapers and vibrant cultural scene, set the stage for Hillary and George’s wedding, a celebration that seamlessly blended the charm of the Carolinas with the richness of Greek traditions. The result? A day filled with class, character, and an abundance of love.
Hillary and George’s love story began on Valentine’s Day in 2014, introduced by a friend. Their first official date at Gibson’s Steakhouse in Gold Coast set the stage for a romantic journey that led to George’s heartfelt proposal six years later at the same iconic venue.
The couple’s vision for their special day was nothing short of a classic affair, calling for black-tie attire from their guests. Yet, it was the subtle infusion of the bride and groom’s roots that added a unique twist to the celebration. Hillary, hailing from North Carolina, brought a touch of the South with lush flowers, greenery and rustic wooden family-style dining tables. Some cousins even embraced their Southern side, donning cowboy hats.
However, there was no doubt about it, this was a big Greek wedding for sure. The couple chose the very church where George was baptized for their traditional Greek Orthodox ceremony (St. Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Church). At the City Hall Events reception, the air was filled with the scent of traditional Greek hors d’oeuvres, including succulent lamb chops, flaky spanakopita, comforting avgolemono soup and lush Greek salads, expertly integrated by their caterer, Butter & Vine.
The true pièce de résistance was a sprawling 48+ ft table adorned with an array of delectable Greek desserts, courtesy of the groom’s family. Greek koufeta (white Jordan almonds) adorned each place setting, creating a sweet and symbolic touch. With stomachs full, the night commenced with lots and lots of dancing. The DJ effortlessly transitioned between Greek tunes and a sprinkle of country for the bride.
As the night drew to a close, the dance floor was filled with lively Greek dances and the newlyweds being showered by money. From the fusion of cultures to the elegant, marble-detailed venue, this wedding encapsulated the city-chic vibe this couple built their love story on.
