Modern Pink & Gold Fairytale Wedding Inspiration
Whimsical centerpieces, ivory taper candles, gold dinnerware and a beautiful cascading bouquet of roses in shades of blush and cream. Paired with an exquisite pink and gold cake, this design is fit for royalty!
This editorial shoot was loosely inspired by the royal wedding. It was not intended to recreate or speculate the actual royal wedding happenings but rather a fairytale version many of the vendors constructed as their childhood version of what being a princess would be like. Of course, now as adults and business owners, we also wanted to infuse it with some of the trends of today.
The venue was the Grosse Pointe War Memorial, a mansion, built in 1910, and donated to the community in honor of World War II veterans in 1949. We elected to use the Terrace Room which features a beautiful soft blue color, gold wall sconces and chandeliers, and stunning herringbone wood floors. The location was softened even further with semi-circular endcaps to the room making the shape of the room an oval. The venue grounds featured beautiful gardens and architecture. It also overlooks Lake St. Clair separating Michigan from Canada.
When discussing color palette, we relied on our childhood make-believe memories. Pink was at the forefront of many of our visions but we wanted to bring it into modern trends which is how we landed on a rich mauve. We paired it with yellow gold accents which is very on trend lately. The cake was a traditional pipped tiered cake but included added modern elements including colored tiers, spacer tiers, and an alternative cake topper made entirely of sugar.
We wanted to emphasize elegant simple design in many of the paper elements. Since we used a stronger color palette, the simplicity of the paper goods balances the busyness of the colors. The dress is also simpler than a traditional princess ball gown. This dress was inspired by the simplicity of the new duchess’ dress but still contained the sparkle that we all dreamed of.
The bouquet was a beautiful cascading design featuring mauve, lavender, and ivory garden roses. Cascading bouquets are more traditional which we felt was a great choice for this shoot to marry the traditional and modern pieces.
