A Note from the Vendors
In May 2018, Charleston welcomed Merchants Hall, a sophisticated new wedding venue in the heart of Historic District. This shoot captured by Michel Berda, veteran Charleston photographer, gives you one of the first glimpses into the romantic weddings this venue will host in the future.
The theme was a blend between modern and traditional styles, radiating traditional Southern elegance with a tropical twist. Modern touches like décor swings in the lounge, suspended floral arrangement and the boho-chic lounge are contemporary. While elements such as the wicker chargers, vintage cut glass candlesticks and florals like the antique hydrangeas create traditional charm.
Chelsye Harp, Director of Events at Intrigue, encourages brides-to-be to mix and match like she did in this shoot. The pops of color, unexpected textures and varied patterns were combined to show how contrast can create a cohesive look.
The Lowcountry was a major inspiration behind details like guest names embossed on oysters, and the palm décor which nods to local flora. The shoot also portrays a quintessentially “Charleston” engagement at Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit in City Market and an elegant post-ceremony cocktail at The Spectator Hotel.
Merchants Hall is a landmark venue that highlights Charleston’s exceptional history and culture. This circa 1856 building is the perfect canvas for timeless ceremonies, featuring exposed brick, wood columns, crystal chandeliers and views of City Market. The luxurious interiors and historic features of this venue provide a chic canvas for weddings in the Holy City.
