A Joining of Two
When two dragonflies meet and fall in love, they will be mates for life, according to one legend. Susan and Jim love this story so much that they incorporated dragonflies throughout their wedding day. The couple met playing tennis and it soon became a love match. The couple also included several meaningful Greek cultural traditions into their wedding. Ivy is used instead of flowers to represent indissoluble love. A bag of sugar coated almonds, or Koufeta, were placed on all the guest tables. Each bag contained an odd number of almonds, to symbolize indivisibility, just as Susan and Jim will remain undivided.

CEREMONY
Annunciation Cathedral in Chicago. It is the oldest Greek Orthodox Cathedral in the city, very ornate and Byzantine.
RECEPTION
Susan loves sailing so the obvious choice was the Columbia Yacht Club where they are members. It’s a historic boat permanently docked on Lake Michigan. The reception was held in a tent on the aft deck with hundreds of blue and white paper lanterns, provided by City Scents, suspended from the tent’s ceiling. Tables were covered in light blue organza overlays.
INVITATIONS
Definitely set the tone of the evening with an anchor motif in simple blue and white by Elizabeth Grace Invitations, Chicago. In addition, ceremony programs on a pearlized blue paper with a beautiful dragonfly helped describe some of the special Greek traditions included during the ceremony.
FLOWERS
Instead of traditional centerpieces, City Scents Flowers and Gifts, Chicago, did lush ivy topiaries in clean white ceramic pots adorned with two dragonflies.
WEDDING CONSULTANT
LOLA Event Productions, Chicago. Wedding Gown Carolina Herrera ivory silk with an empire waist.
JEWELRY
A mix of heirloom from her Grandmother and Haute Bride jewelry from The Left Bank, Chicago.
HAIR/MAKEUP
Raven and Ro from Beauty on Call, Chicago.
PHOTOGRAPHER
Rick Aguilar Studios, Chicago.
MENU
Columbia Yacht Club. To go with the water location, guests could nibble before dinner at a scrumptious raw bar, then select dinner from a variety of Mediterranean inspired food stations serving Kalamata olive crusted salmon, Chicken Limonata and beef tenderloin kabobs. Besides wedding cake, guests enjoyed a do-it-yourself sundae bar.
CAKE
A passion fruit and coconut cake adorned with two sugar dragonflies inspired by Tiffany windows from Vanilla Patisserie, Chicago.
