Love and Baseball

Although Gianna and Paul both grew up in the Chicago area and knew each other as casual acquaintances, it wasn’t until they both separately went to San Diego with friends to see the Chicago Cubs play the Padres that sparks finally flew. Since it was baseball that brought them together, they incorporated it into their wedding and increased the fun as well. The bridal party even wore Cubs’ Paws and formed a tunnel on the dance floor, shouting “Go Cubs, Go” as the bride and groom went through.

CEREMONY
Resurrection Catholic Church, Wayne, Illinois. The round, modern church was decorated with a fabric aisle runner, customized “G” and “P” florals for the sanctuary doors, floral garlands for the parents’ pews and white bows for remaining pews. On the altar were five large porcelain urns filled with lush white flowers.

RECEPTION
Donald E. Stephens Convention Center (formerly the Rosemont Convention Center). Guests were ushered into the reception via a red carpet and custom silver crepe de chine draping. There was a beautiful fountain behind the place card table, which was decorated with three-foot peacock feathers, mirrors and lots of candles. The ballroom was dressed in a rich mixture of silver, white, burgundy and crystals for maximum sparkle.

WEDDING CONSULTANT
Tying the Knot, Hinsdale.

CAKE
Two cakes were served—both provided by the caterers at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. One had five tiers, each with slightly different detail and the top tier with the couple’s monogram and a bundle of white roses. The second cake was a groom’s cake—marble cake with chocolate filling and shaped like a cubs bat and baseball.

INVITATIONS
Papagraphics, Chicago, designed a custom silver/white booklet with beaded swirl cover.

WEDDING GOWN
An Eve of Milady diamond white, beaded dress with a sweetheart neckline.

BRIDESMAID DRESSES
Raylia dresses in black ombre with a halter style neckline and laced up the back.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Stephen Green Photography, Oak Park.

LIGHTING
a custom Gobo for the dance floor projecting “Gianna and Paul” by Chicago Party Rental, McCook, Illinois (which also provided the draping).
